11 February, 2010Herbal remedies scare report: let's get the facts straight

Setting the record straight on the recent scare report on herbal medicines by a South Australian academic, the Complementary HealthCare Council of Australia (CHC) said today that much of the report was ill-informed, misleading and irresponsible — and most importantly, not relevant to complementary medicine products sold in Australia, which are among the most tightly regulated in the world.

1. American Botanical Council responds to article on herb-drug Interactions in Journal of the American College of Cardiology. 

2. In a message to its members, IADSA Scientific Goup co-ordinator Penny Viner said: ‘You may be aware of a recent report in Science Daily entitled “Antioxidants aren’t always good for you and can impair muscle function”.

It’s coming around to that time of year again – our Annual Industry Awards, with the latest event, on 29 October 2009, also marking the Complementary Healthcare Council's 10th anniversary.

The night is shaping up to be the most exciting event in this year’s calendar, with an array of special guests from the CHC’s first 10 years, presentations by Parliamentary Secretary for Health Mark Butler, entertainment by comedian Anh Do and of course, fine dining.

The closing date for Award nominations has been extended until close of business
Monday 28 September 2009.
